Panama Real Estate and Long Beach Ports: What's the Connection?
The Panama Canal Expansion is progressing despite economic hard times abroad. In fact there are expansion and renovation projects all over the Americas in preparation for the completion of the Panama Canal Expansion project in 2014. In the background, there excellent opportunities in Panama real estate.
Business publications are repeatedly doing articles about United States East coast ports upgrading for larger ships in preparation for the larger boats passing through the Panama Canal after 2014. Now we hear that the Port of Long Beach is looking at a nearly billion dollar upgrade to stay competitive in light of the fact that many boats currently docking at Long Beach will pass through the Panama Canal heading for the United States Gulf and East coasts.
The Long Beach projects looks to integrate container offloading to trains instead of loading trucks which then transfer to rail shipment. Long Beach is also looking to clean up its port making it more environmentally friendly.
So what?
It is a matter of perspective. Panama spent the 20th century as a province of Colombia than as vassal state of the United States which built and ran the Panama Canal. It was when the USA left at the end of 1999 that Panama’s real economic boom started. The perception of Panama as a US colony went away and foreign investment soared.
The point is that Panama is prospering. Panama’s residential and commercial property are going up in value and it is not just due to foreigners who want to retire in this tropical paradise. Many foreigners moving here are expatriates who work and share their expertise here.
The hidden opportunity in 2009 is that due to the decrease in North Americans looking for property prices in the high end of Panama’s real estate market have taken a breather. ABPanama is currently helping link up sellers who got stuck in a price squeeze with buyers holding ready cash. This helps everyone. It gets the seller out of a bind and it puts the buyer in that 30th floor condo overlooking the Pacific at 2006 prices.
Panama Commercial Real Estate
Even as the recession took jobs away throughout the world in 2008 Panama added jobs.
Panama’s unique location and development as a transportation hub provide excellent investment opportunities. You can come to Panama and do business and you can come to Panama, buy commercial real estate, and lease it to the next entrepreneur while you sit on you patio in Boquete sipping you hot Panama coffee. ABPanama can help you target a commercial real estate investment that will take advantage of the increase in shipping that will take place when the recession lifts and, later, when the Panama Canal Expansion doubles canal traffic and lets some of the world largest ships pass.
From shipping container facilities to trucking services Panama is developing its infrastructure. We invite you to be a part of Panama’s success.
